$2M Mega Millions Prize for Ticket Sold in Joliet Still Unclaimed

If you purchased a Mega Millions ticket at a gas station in Joliet, Illinois last year, you might want to dig it back out.

You could have a $2 million prize waiting for you.

Unclaimed Mega Millions Ticket Worth $2 Million Sold in Joliet

It has been more than a year since a winning Mega Millions ticket was sold at the Mobil station located at 1600 New Lenox Road. The ticket was purchased for the April 5, 2019, Mega Millions draw.

That lucky ticket won $2 million. However, the money remains unclaimed more than a year later.

The winning Mega Millions ticket was originally supposed to expire last weekend, but the Illinois Lottery announced that they are extending the deadline due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“Players usually have 12 months to claim their prize,” Harold Mays, acting Illinois Lottery Director, said in a statement released Friday.

“During this difficult time,” Mays continued, “we wanted to extend the prize expiration date to provide player an extra opportunity to claim a prize that has been forgotten or misplaced.”

It isn’t just this one lottery ticket that is getting an extended deadline, either. The Illinois Lottery is extending the claim period for other prizes, too.

Players with prizes set to expire between March 16th and May 31st, 2020, now have until June 30th, 2020, to claim their winnings, according to the statement.

Did You Purchase the Winning Ticket?

If you purchased a ticket at the 1600 New Lenox Road Mobil station for the April 5th Mega Millions draw last year, now is the time to track it down. It could mean a $2 million prize.

“Considering may of us are spending a lot of time at home right now,” Mays said, “if you bought a Mega Millions ticket in Joliet around this time last year — now is the time to check under your couch cushions, in your desk drawers or in your glovebox to see if you’ve got the winning lottery ticket tucked away somewhere.”

The numbers on the winning ticket from Joliet were 8, 22, 24, 38, and 64, with a Mega Ball of 21.

If you are holding a winning Illinois Lottery ticket, lottery prize claim centers are currently closed to support Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines for social distancing.

As a result, any players who wish to claim an expired prize during this time period should fill out a claim form and follow the instructions for mail-in claims. You can find the information here:
