One Lucky Winner in Florida Wins Massive $396.9 Million Powerball Jackpot

After a long wait, a massive Powerball jackpot finally has a winner, and a very lucky person in Florida is the sole recipient of the substantial prize that has had no winners come forward since last November.

What is the big prize in question? An amazing $396.9 million.

The Winning Numbers for the $396.9 Million Dollar Powerball Jackpot

According to the Florida Commission, the actual prize is $396.9 million although they had advertised “only” $394 million. The winning six numbers for the jackpot were 9-12-15-31-60, with a Powerball of 2.

The winning ticket was purchased in Bonita Springs at a 7-Eleven convenience store, and the retailer will receive their own prize of$100,000 just for being the retailer that sold the winning ticket.

Since the November 6 drawing, the jackpot has rolled over 24 times, which meant that it was able to draw more than $33 million in contributions toward the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund, says Powerball.

When someone wins the Powerball, they have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim the prize, which the winner of the $396.9 million dollar prize luckily met.

There was another fortunate winner from Florida from Wednesday’s drawing, winning a paltry $1 million. That ticket was purchased in Coconut Creek at the M&S Food Store.

The next Powerball drawing happened on Saturday, and the jackpot was estimated to be around $40 million.

When No One Wins, the Jackpot Increases

When there are no winners of a Powerball, some people might be disappointed, but in reality, it means that they get another chance at an even larger prize during the next drawing.

When there is no winner and the jackpot approaches the $400 million threshold, that means the expected value exceeds the cost of the ticket, says the Los Angeles Times.

While the idea of winning such an incredible amount sounds tempting, your chances of winning the Powerball is around 1 in 292 million. In other words, you’re more likely to naturally give birth to quintuplets. Or to be killed by fireworks.
